Kenya's women's rugby team, the Lionesses, are still in the running for a spot at the 2021 World Cup in New Zealand, despite a crushing 39-0 loss to South Africa in their final match of the Africa Women's Cup on August 17, 2019.
The match, played at the Bosman Stadium in Brakpan, Johannesburg, saw the Kenyans struggle to assert themselves against the South Africans, who are ranked 11th globally.
Having secured silver at the four-team tournament, the Lionesses still have a chance to qualify for their maiden World Cup through a one-off playoff against South American opposition.
The winner of the playoff will earn a spot in a four-team repechage next year, where the final ticket to the World Cup will be up for grabs.
Teams that finished in the top seven at the 2017 Women's Rugby World Cup, including defending champions New Zealand, are already qualified for the 2021 World Cup.
