Alexis Sanchez Rejects Loan Move to AS Roma ¶
Manchester United's Alexis Sanchez has reportedly rejected a loan move to AS Roma, citing wage issues as the reason for his decision.
According to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri, Roma were close to finalizing a deal with United for Sanchez's loan, with the Serie A side agreeing to pay half of his wages during his loan spell. However, Sanchez turned down the offer, preferring to stay at Old Trafford.
Sanchez joined Manchester United from Arsenal in January 2018, becoming the club's highest-paid player at the time. However, his return on investment has been below expectations, with the Chilean forward scoring just five goals in 45 appearances for the Red Devils.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has expressed his confidence in Sanchez, stating that the forward is nearing a return to first-team action after competing in the Copa America over the summer.
"Alexis is such a professional and he comes in working every single day really hard," Solskjaer said. "And he wants to be a part of this and it's these stories he's again that he's been put in the reserves, of course he hasn't. He's a part of our squad and a very, very good player. He's had three weeks now, he's a few weeks behind the rest but he's close to being part of it."
Sanchez will now compete with Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Martial, and Daniel James for a place up front at Old Trafford.
