On August 18, 2019, a shocking video of a man stealing a backpack from a customer at a Nairobi CBD eatery went viral on social media.
The 80-second CCTV footage, reportedly captured at Big Square Restaurant along Moi Avenue, shows the man dressed in a white shirt and black trousers walking into the restaurant while holding a mobile phone.
He then pulls up a chair next to three customers, pretends to be on a phone call, and stretches his right leg to slowly pull a backpack from the floor.
The man stands up, picks the bag, and exits the restaurant while still on the phone, leaving the customers unaware of the theft.
The video has sparked outrage, with many questioning how the thief managed to pull off the crime without being noticed.
