Kenya's impressive performance in the 12th East African Military Games and Cultural Events continued on Saturday, August 17, 2019, at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.

As the field events took a break until Monday, Ulinzi Stars remained top in football, while their counterparts Ulinzi Warriors led in basketball. In netball, Kenya sat second behind Tanzania.

Rwanda was one win away from lifting the women's volleyball title after recording victories in all three matches they had played.

Kenya's football team had a strong start, defeating Burundi 4-0 before drawing with Uganda. They topped the table with 4 points, ahead of Tanzania and Uganda, who were tied with Rwanda on 3 points.

Tanzania ranked second due to a superior goal difference, followed by Rwanda, who secured their first win in the event by hammering Burundi 3-0.

In the only football match of the day, Rwanda had to fight hard to record their first win, with Fitina Omborenga being sent off six minutes before the break. Kevin Ishimwe broke the deadlock for Rwanda on the 52nd minute, and Ernest Sugira stretched their lead 14 minutes later. Ishimwe sealed victory for Rwanda on the 70th minute.

Ulinzi Warriors topped the basketball table with 6 points, having beaten South Sudan, Burundi, and Tanzania. Rwanda moved second in basketball after beating South Sudan 76-70, while Burundi beat Uganda 72-67.

Kenya bounced back in netball with an 80-14 win over Rwanda, while Tanzania whitewashed Burundi 99-16. In volleyball, Rwanda was one win away from the title after beating Uganda 3-2.
