On August 16, 2019, a fireworks display in the French resort town of Collioure turned deadly when a rocket malfunctioned and exploded, injuring nine people.
According to the local prefecture, the device 'exploded very low' and rained down sparks on some of the 80,000 crowd, as well as firefighters and emergency responders.
One person remained in hospital after surgery for a shoulder fracture, while the other eight were treated for their injuries on the scene.
Local police have opened an investigation into the incident, and three doctors on site provided immediate medical attention to those injured.
