Kenyan wrestlers are gearing up to make a mark at the 12th edition of the All African Games, scheduled to take place in Rabat, Morocco from August 19-31, 2019.
The team, comprising 10 players, including six men and four women, is among the last batch of players to depart for Morocco on August 22.
The squad includes John Omondi (87kgs) and Kennedy Koech (60kgs) in Greco-Roman style, while Africa bronze medallist Mathayo Maabila (65kgs) will compete in the Freestyle category.
Others in the Freestyle category are Mark Omasaba (86kgs), Alvisa Winrose (62kgs), Frida Karimi (68kgs), Sofia Ayeti (67kgs), and Faith Ngogo (50kgs), who will be making her international debut in the tournament.
Team manager Eric Walucho expressed confidence in the squad's readiness, stating, 'In this game, you don't prepare in the last hour, you must be ready long before the tournament, and thus we are only polishing our arsenal before we travel.'
The wrestlers will be looking to add a gold medal to the two bronze medals they harvested in the 2015 Games held in Brazzaville, Congo.
According to Walucho, 'Our only aim in Morocco is to win medals since we will be up against the same players we met at the Africa Championships in Tunisia.'
