On August 16, 2019, the government announced that August 26 would be a public holiday in Kenya, allowing the census exercise to proceed without disruptions.

However, on August 17, 2019, the government's communication team, PSCU, issued a statement retracting the initial announcement, stating that August 26 would not be a public holiday.

According to PSCU, the initial announcement was a mistake, and the government had not declared August 26 as a public holiday.

"We regret to inform that the earlier statement regarding the public holiday on August 26 was a mistake. The President did not declare August 26 as a public holiday," PSCU stated.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and would like to clarify that August 26, which will be a Monday, will not be a public holiday," PSCU added.

The census exercise is scheduled to take place from August 24 to August 25, and the government has assured Kenyans that their safety is a top priority.
