Published on August 16, 2019, Makueni Governor Prof. Kivutha Kibwana has made a surprise entry into the 2022 presidential race.

Speaking at the fifth Annual Tobong'ulore Festival in Turkana, Governor Kibwana revealed that he had been persuaded by many Kenyans to join the presidential contest.

“I will be on the ballot,” Kibwana declared, confirming his decision to run for the country's top seat.

Notably, Kibwana had previously announced his intention to retire from politics at the end of his current term in 2022, but it appears he has had a change of heart.

During the festival, Kibwana also cautioned leaders against underestimating Deputy President William Ruto's chances in the 2022 presidential election, describing him as a frontrunner.
