On August 1, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at Milimani estate, Kakamega Sub-county, where Constable Philemon Kipkoech Samoei lost his life. The alleged perpetrator, Constable Phillip Wahome Muthondoi, 22, was later charged with murder.

According to court documents, the accused had been denied access to the deceased's house by Kipkoech, citing that Wahome's boots were muddy. Angered by the denial, Wahome allegedly drew his AK47 rifle and shot Kipkoech on the head.

Wahome then took the deceased's AK47 rifle, which also had 30 rounds of ammunition, and removed one bullet. Investigators established that the accused later placed Kipkoech's gun near him to make it look like a case of suicide.

However, officers from Kakamega Police Station, who were informed of the incident, rushed to the house of the deceased and arrested Wahome. On August 16, 2019, the court granted Wahome Sh250,000 bond, allowing him to temporarily walk free.
