On August 16, 2019, it was reported that Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi would pay his estranged wife, NTV news presenter Doreen Gatwiri Majala, Sh3 million to settle an assault case out of court.

The settlement comes after MP Mulyungi offered to make a one-off payment to avoid a jail term, which could have led to his removal from office as stated in the Constitution.

Ms. Doreen had filed a case against MP Mulyungi for assaulting her on February 25th, 2018, at their home in Nairobi's Karen estate.

According to Ms. Doreen's tweet on the night of the incident, her husband locked her in the bedroom after the assault, which left her with head injuries and a numb left ear.

Ms. Doreen described her husband as 'a man with unforgivable temper' in her divorce case, which will proceed despite the settlement.
