Real Madrid's highly anticipated season opener against Celta Vigo has taken a hit with the news that Eden Hazard will miss the match due to a muscle injury sustained during training on Friday.
According to a statement from the club, Hazard underwent tests after the training session, which revealed that he had injured the anterior tendon in his left thigh. The extent of his absence from action remains unclear at this time.
Eden Hazard, 28, joined Real Madrid from Chelsea in June for a record-breaking 100 million euros (91 million pounds), marking one of the club's most significant signings in a busy close season. The 13-time European champions have invested over 300 million euros in new recruits, with Hazard being one of the most high-profile additions.
Real Madrid will also be without fellow winger Marco Asensio for the start of the new campaign due to a serious knee injury, while Dani Carvajal is suspended.
