On August 15, 2019, a 9-year-old girl went missing during a church service at the Neno Evangelism Center in Nairobi. Her mother, Susan Wambui Nderu, raised an alarm claiming the woman who took her daughter was kidnapping her child.
The suspect, Dorcas Cheruto Wangila, a 19-year-old house help from Githurai, appeared before Magistrate Kennedy Cheruyot and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to reports, during the church service, a commotion occurred after a churchgoer seemed to have caught the 'holy spirit.' It was during this commotion that the accused claimed to have left her wallet at the main gate and asked the child to accompany her to get it back.
The court set her to be released on a cash bail of Ksh.500,000 or a bond of Ksh.500,000.
