On August 16, 2019, Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku delivered a verdict at the Milimani Law Court in Nairobi, sentencing two Kenyan rugby players to 15 years in prison each for raping a city musician.

Alex Olaba and Frank Wanyama, both Kenyan Harlequins players, were found guilty of the rape charges filed by Wendy Kemunto, who claimed the two men gang-raped her at a house party in Highrise Estate, Nairobi, on February 10, 2018.

Despite their defense lawyer's request for a lenient sentence, the court handed down the maximum punishment, with the prosecutor arguing that anything less would be 'going against the status of the law.'

Wanyama and Olaba, both 22 at the time of the incident, had initially denied the accusations, claiming the encounter was consensual. However, they later acknowledged knowing the accuser and being together on the day of the alleged assault.
