On August 16, 2019, Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku handed down a 15-year prison sentence to Lawrence Frank Wanyama and Alex Mahaga Olaba, two Kenyan rugby players found guilty of rape.

The two players, who played for Kenya Harlequin and the national rugby 7s team, were charged with gang-raping a woman named WA on February 10, 2018, at an apartment in Highrise, Nairobi County.

According to the court ruling, the complainant was 'traumatised' and a 'deterrent sentence is necessary.'

Frank and Alex have maintained that the sexual escapade was mutually agreed, but their lawyer has stated that they will appeal the verdict.
