On August 16, 2019, a group of women MPs from the Inua Mama group, who are allied to the Tanga Tanga Movement, were met with hostility in Nyeri. The women, who were supporting DP William Ruto's presidential bid, were heckled and chased away by locals who are leaning towards the Kieleweke group.
The residents, who were opposed to the group's actions, accused them of disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga. Security personnel were called in to calm the situation, and the rally was eventually dissolved.
According to a tweet by NTV Kenya, the incident occurred as the Inua Mama group attempted to hold a function in Nyeri. The tweet read: 'UPDATE: Inua mama (Tangatanga women) function in Nyeri disrupted by youth allied to Kieleweke Movement seeking to stop the women MPs from politicking.'
