On August 16, 2019, a group of MPs from Western Kenya gathered at the burial ceremony of Ikolomani MP's son, Chris Ademah Masaka, to send a clear message to ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi: he has no chance of becoming president in 2022 unless he supports DP William Ruto.

Mumias East MP Benjamin Washiali was among the leaders who spoke at the ceremony, saying that Western Kenya can only benefit under a Ruto presidency. He vowed to unite with other Luhya leaders ahead of 2022 as long as they partner with Ruto.

“Western Kenya can only benefit under a Ruto presidency. I am ready to unite with other Luhya leaders ahead of 2022 as long as we partner with Ruto,” Washiali said.

DP William Ruto, who was in attendance, asked Kenyans not to allow the referendum debate to divide them. He urged leaders to shun divisive politics and unite Kenyans for the development of the country.

“We do not want any form of politics to divide us; the development of our country is dependent on the unity of the leaders and the people,” The DP said.

Other leaders present at the burial ceremony included MPs Malulu Injendi, Benjamin Washiali, Dan Wanyama, John Waluke, Emmanuel Wangwe, and Raphael Wanjala, among others.
