Published on August 16, 2019, reports emerged that NTV anchor Doreen Gatwiri Majala was set to receive Ksh3 million from her estranged husband, Mwingi Central MP Gideon Mulyungi, as part of an out-of-court settlement.

The MP, through his lawyer Erick Masese, offered the one-off financial compensation to avoid the possibility of a custodial sentence, should he be found guilty of assaulting Majala.

Were Mulyungi found guilty, his seat in the National Assembly would be in jeopardy as a guilty verdict would earn him a two-year jail term, automatically causing him to lose his seat.

However, the divorce case in which Majala describes the MP as 'a man with an unforgivable temper' still stands and is set to proceed.

It is alleged that the MP assaulted Majala on the night of February 25, 2018, at their Karen home, leaving her nursing head injuries.

Majala came out to the public on the assault through social media, claiming that her life was in danger.

She claimed that Mulyungi locked her up in the bedroom after the beating and that it was not the first incident that the Mwingi legislator had clobbered her.

When reached for a statement on the matter, Majala said, 'The matter is still in court so I cannot comment on that but what I can say is that the information circulating is not true, especially about the amount.'
