Naivasha police are cracking down on a notorious gang that has been trailing and robbing motorists in the town.

According to police, the gang has been targeting motorists who have just withdrawn large sums of money from banks, with at least eight incidents reported in the last two months.

The latest incident occurred on Thursday when a trader lost Sh200,000 he had withdrawn from Naivasha Commercial Bank after his vehicle was broken into by the gang members.

Police have collected CCTV footage from Diplomat House and Buffalo Mall, and are reviewing it to identify the suspects.

Naivasha police boss Samuel Waweru confirmed that the police are working to arrest the culprits, saying that the CCTV footage has been helpful in their investigations.

“We suspect that the suspects are either working with some bank staff or are trailing their victims from the banks before robbing them,” said a police source.

Police have already arrested two suspects in a similar case two months ago, and are hopeful that they will catch up with the rest of the gang soon.

Earlier, an unknown number of thugs had raided Rocky hotel at the junction of Moi South lake road in Naivasha after rounding the night guards and tying them up.
