On August 16, 2019, a shocking incident occurred in Kiangini area, Makueni County, where a local resident's goats died shortly after receiving treatment from a well-known local healer.
The goats had been brought to the healer by their owner, who had sought their help after being advised by friends to do so.
According to eyewitnesses, the owner had a strong faith in the healer's abilities, despite being warned by friends against seeking their help.
"Jamani mbuzi wangu wamekufa. Nitakapojua waliyewaua atakiona cha mtema kuni. Mbuzi hawa nililetewa na wakwe zangu kulipia mahari. Nitafanya uchunguzi wa kina kubaini aliyehusika na kifo cha mbuzi wangu," the owner was quoted as saying.
As news of the incident spread, neighbors began to taunt the owner, accusing them of being foolish for seeking the help of a healer.
"Unatisha akina nani wewe. Unaamini nguvu za mganga wako kuliko Mungu! Kwa nini sasa umeanza kutulimbikizia lawama na hatuna hatia. Tutakunyorosha ukianza kisirani chako," one of the neighbors was quoted as saying.
The owner immediately left for the healer's residence, but was met with a shocking discovery - the healer had fled the scene.
The incident has left many in the community wondering if the owner will continue to seek the help of healers or if they will seek alternative solutions.
