On August 16, 2019, the government ordered all bars in Nyandarua and Laikipia counties to close early during the census night. The aim was to ensure that all residents were at home so they could be counted.
Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu and Nyandarua County Commissioner Boaz Cherutich, who is the chairman of the county census committee, made the announcement. According to Cherutich, security would be beefed up during the exercise.
