On August 16, 2019, Nairobi governor Mike Sonko took to social media to wish his adopted son Gift Osinya a happy 18th birthday. In a heartfelt message, Sonko praised Gift and his brother Satrine for being a blessing to the Mbuvi family.
According to Sonko, Gift and Satrine were rescued from a hail of al-Shabaab militants' bullets five years ago, after their mother was killed instantly in a church attack. Sonko adopted the brothers and has since showered them with gifts and taken them on expensive vacations to places like Dubai.
“Serving the poor is serving the living God and this is where blessings come from,” Sonko said. “But there are a few dirty-minded people who politicise this saying it's PR which will not stop me from wishing a happy belated 18th birthday to our adopted Son Gift Osinya.”
