On Thursday, August 15, 2019, Kenya Junior Stroke Play golf champion Taimur Malik of Muthaiga moved closer to making a national double in the Junior Golf Foundation (JGF) golf series.
Malik, formerly of Windsor, beat home player Nihal Shah 5-4 in the quarter-finals of the 2019 Kenya Amateur Junior Match Play Championship at Sigona Golf Club's par 72 course.
He will face Royal Nairobi's Ikinu Wambugu in the semi-finals on Friday, August 16, at 7:20 am.
Malik's win came after he beat Wasim Ali with a similar margin in the Absa Group-sponsored tournament.
Other semi-final matches will be between Muthaiga's Njoroge Kibugu and Windsor's Lee Kimathi.
The quarter-finals saw several upsets, including the defeat of tournament leading contender Mutahi Kibugu of Muthaiga by Ikinu Wambugu by one hole.
The winners of the semi-finals will meet in the final soon after, followed by the prize giving ceremony.
This year, 35 juniors participated in the event, which started with a 36-hole stroke play qualifying event where Mutahi Kibugu topped the qualifying list.
