Published on August 15, 2019, Kenya Railways has announced plans to increase the capacity of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) passenger service between Nairobi and Mombasa.
The move comes in response to high demand for tickets during the August school holidays, with the Madaraka Express fully booked.
From August 19 to 22, 2019, five additional coaches will be added to the Nairobi to Mombasa morning train and the Mombasa to Nairobi afternoon train.

This is not the first time Kenya Railways has increased coaches during the holiday season, with the service having steadily added more coaches since its launch in June 2017.
The SGR passenger train has a capacity of 1,260 passengers, with 15 Economy Class and three First Class coaches, as well as a luggage carrier with a total capacity of 70 tonnes.
