Italian Serie A club Hellas Verona has confirmed that Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu has been hospitalized in Italy with blood clots in his lungs.

According to a statement released by the club on August 14, 2019, Badu was diagnosed with pulmonary microembolism, a condition where small blood clots form in the lungs.

Badu, 28, is currently on loan at Hellas Verona from Serie A rivals Udinese, with a clause to buy.

On August 15, 2019, Badu's condition was reported to be improving, with the player stating that he was 'doing much better', but he will remain in hospital under closer observation for the next few days.

Badu's hospitalization comes after he was unable to join Ghana's Black Stars squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt due to an 11-month injury layoff.
