On November 24, 2018, a Ugandan cruise boat capsized on Lake Victoria, resulting in the deaths of 30 people, including the boat owner and his wife.

According to President Yoweri Museveni, the boat was carrying more than twice its capacity of 50 people when it sank.

President Museveni tweeted that the vessel was 'private, unregistered, unlicensed, and maybe uninsured.'

He added that the operators of the boat would be charged with 'criminal negligence and manslaughter.'

Robert Alai, a Kenyan social media user, shared a video of the revelers on the boat, warning people to 'mind their safety' and 'ask questions' before engaging in activities that could put their lives at risk.

Asuman Mugenyi, director of operations for the police, attributed the accident to overloading and bad weather.
