On August 15, 2019, during the fifth annual Tobong'ulore festival in Turkana, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana urged Deputy President William Ruto to engage in talks with ODM leader Raila Odinga to secure a spot in the next government after 2022.
“I wish you could also sit with Raila. That will send a good message to the country. A conversation with Raila will ensure you’re part of the next government as much as it will unite the country,” Kibwana said.
According to Kibwana, Ruto should not be left out of major decisions affecting the country, as he is also a part of the country’s leadership.
During the same event, Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok expressed concerns about the country's readiness for a referendum, citing a lack of funds in the national budget.
“I do not think we have money for a referendum in the national budget. These are questions that need to be solved so that we do not have any roadblock on any Bill,” Nanok said.
DP Ruto was accompanied by several leaders, including Turkana Governor Josephat Nanok, Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana, Turkana Central MP John Lodepe, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, and Turkana Woman Representative Joyce Emanikor.
