On August 15, 2019, residents of Mwembelegeza Scheme in Kisauni, Mombasa, wrote a protest letter to express their frustration over alleged land grabbing by Mr. Nassoro, a private developer.
According to the residents, Mr. Nassoro has been putting up illegal structures on public land despite their repeated complaints to the Mombasa municipality.
The residents claim that the matter dates back to 2014, but the Mombasa municipality has failed to take action, instead making arrests that do not lead to any meaningful resolution.
The residents are now concerned about the rising insecurity in the region, as the illegal structures pose a risk to them and potential criminals who may take cover in the structures.
They have also raised concerns about the concealing of contractors' information and the lack of action from the County's inspectorate despite their numerous complaints.
The residents have accused Mr. Nassoro of having links to Hon. Maimuna Shanzu MCA, who is allegedly involved in underhand deals.
They have also been threatened with dire consequences if they pursue the matter further.
Photos of the encroachment on the road have been shared, highlighting the seriousness of the issue.
The residents are now calling on the Mombasa County Government and the governor to take action to protect public land and ensure that the matter is not delayed.
