Published on August 15, 2019, MCSK is facing intense scrutiny after revelations that they were paying artistes a fraction of their royalties collected by the Copyright Society of Kenya (CSK).

Artistes such as Khaligraph Jones, Willy Paul, Fena Gitu, and Sauti Sol have expressed their disappointment and anger at the meager monies they received on Mpesa as payment of their royalties.

According to a breakdown of MCSK's budget by Joe Muchiri, the organization uses up a significant portion of the monies collected on behalf of the artistes, leaving them with peanuts.

Can you imagine creating a work of art that generates substantial revenue, only to have it pay for bureaucratic salaries? This raises questions about the purpose of striving to master one's craft.
