On August 14, 2019, a video went viral showing Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika being slapped by Uhuru's security detail in Nakuru.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when Kihika was on her way to a music festival in Nakuru, where Uhuru was also in attendance for a county office opening ceremony.
It is alleged that Governor Lee Kinyanjui, County Speaker Joel Kairu, and Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama were authorized to give Uhuru's security detail orders to slap Kihika.
However, despite the orders, the security detail mistook Kihika for a protester and the situation escalated.
On August 15, 2019, Kihika denied the allegations on her Facebook page, stating that the claims were false and that the page was a hoax.
She also did not comment on the incident.
