On August 15, 2019, a heated exchange between Senator Susan Kihika and President Uhuru Kenyatta's security team took place at the Nakuru County Assembly.
Senator Kihika was among the leaders invited to receive the President, who had come to launch a refurbished debating chamber and Ugatuzi Plaza.
According to Njoro MP Charity Kathambi, the security team ordered the Members of County Assembly (MCAs) to move away from the line of leaders, which included Governor Lee Kinyanjui, County Speaker Joel Kairu, and Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama.
However, when the security team returned, they mistakenly identified Senator Kihika as an MCA and ordered her to move away.
‘Yaani MCAs hamsikii’ (‘MCAs should get off the line’), one of the security officers shouted at Senator Kihika as he pushed her away.
Fortunately, Nakuru West MP Samuel Arama and his Gilgil counterpart Martha Wangari intervened, and the security team eventually apologized to Senator Kihika.
‘The security guys didn’t know who is who. It was unfortunate that this brought about the confusion. However, the Senator took no offence and has not complained about it,’ said Arama.
