Menengai Oilers are eyeing their first-ever trophy in the National Sevens Circuit as they head to Nakuru for the Prinsloo Sevens this weekend. The team, fourth on the log with 46 points, 13 points shy of current leaders KCB RFC, has reached the Main Cup finals in the last two rounds, losing to Mwamba RFC and KCB RFC.
Speaking to Nyakundi Report, coach Gibson Weru believes his team can go all the way and win the Prinsloo Sevens trophy if they rectify the mistakes made in their recent finals. 'It's just a matter of improving on our performances after letting ourselves down in the finals which made us pick some lessons, so we're going to rectify our mistakes and keep improving our game and see if we can go all the way and win the trophy,' Weru said.
Menengai Oilers will battle it out in Pool B with varsity side Masinde Muliro University, western based Kabras Sugar, and Egerton Wasps in Nakuru. Weru believes it will be a tough pool, but his target is to finish at the top and see how far they can go on day two.
Weru insists that he is not targeting the overall title but improvement and the growth of the team. 'My target is to keep improving as a team and I don't think we're playing to our potential, so if we keep playing to our potential and be able to get positive results I'm going to be happy with the team,' he said.
