On Wednesday, a gruesome murder shook Kitengela town in Kenya, leaving a trail of chaos and destruction in its wake.
A 15 August 2019 incident saw a businessman's throat slit open in his video shop, located just a few metres from the Kitengela police post.
The brutal attack sparked an angry crowd, which descended on the two assailants before police officers intervened.
One of the suspects has been identified as a Congolese national, while the other is a local tout.
As the rescue mission turned chaotic, residents sought to take the law into their hands, pummeling police officers with stones and smashing car windows.
Led by Jenifer Mutoko, the officers were forced to shoot in the air to disperse the crowd, which was baying for the suspects' blood.
According to residents, a quarrel over a video game had ensued, resulting in the deadly attack.
Isinya Sub-County Police Commander Kinyua Mugambi confirmed that investigations into the matter had been launched, with the two suspects being held at Kitengela Police Station.
Residents have accused the officers of abetting crime by allowing banned gambling joints to continue operating, while also blaming security agencies for an influx of refugees, which they claim has brought business rivalry to the town.
