Published on August 15, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko's daughter Saumu Mbuvi has spoken out about her battle with depression following her breakup with the father of her child, Ben Gatu.
At 21, Saumu entered her first relationship with 'a lot of naivety and expectations that it would lead to marriage.' However, this relationship left her feeling damaged and led to her taking antidepressant pills.
She recalled, 'Let me use myself as an example, my first relationship I was only 21 young and naïve. Thinking the relationship would lead to marriage, it totally damaged me and left me on depression pills for a while. The same fear of being judged is what I had until I choose myself and my child's happiness over everything.'
After separating from Ben Gatu in 2017, Saumu accused him of using her for political mileage. She later started dating again, this time at 23, and made it clear that she would not tolerate any form of violence in her relationships.
She also shared that she has since found happiness with a new partner, although she chose not to reveal his identity. Saumu ended her narration with a message of encouragement to women, urging them to seek God's guidance and to prioritize their own happiness.
