On August 14, 2019, Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha expressed his unwavering commitment to the success of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC) during the closing ceremony of the 93rd edition of the Kenya National Music festivals at Kabarak University.
Prof Magoha, who praised the level of music standards in the country, emphasized the importance of appreciating local music, urging parents and the youth to listen to and support Kenyan artists.
He noted that many Kenyan musicians are poor due to a lack of knowledge on intellectual rights, and called on local musicians to register their music and own their property rights.
Prof Magoha also underscored the significance of music in the health and wellbeing of Kenyans, citing his own experience of feeling stressed before the event but feeling much better after listening to the music.
He commended Kabarak University for providing a learning environment with a strong emphasis on discipline, and urged teachers to be firm in instilling discipline in schools by ensuring children are properly dressed.
Prof Magoha also praised the level of security during the event and commended security personnel for ensuring the safety of the 130,000 participants.
He criticized ministry officials for withholding money meant to employ chaperones, warning that this was unacceptable and would be addressed.
