The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has announced that the country's Census will take place on the night of August 24-25, 2019, marking the first time the exercise will be conducted electronically.
The last census was conducted in 2009, and this year's exercise aims to collect, compile, evaluate, analyze, and publish demographic, social, and economic data.
According to the KNBS, all persons within Kenya's borders during the reference night will be enumerated, including outdoor sleepers, persons on transit, individuals in hotels and lodges, and those in institutions such as hospitals and prisons.
However, Kenyans living in the diaspora will not be enumerated.
Some of the questions that will be asked during the census include:
- Age
- Sex and gender
- Marital status
- Births and deaths
- Migration
- Educational attainment
- Forms and security of difficulties in performing daily life activities
- Labour particulars
- Access and ownership of ICT equipment and services
- Crop farming, livestock, and agriculture
- Housing characteristics and ownership of assets
