On August 14, 2019, a lecturer at the National Institute of Transport in Tanzania allegedly committed a serious offense. According to a lawyer representing Tanzania's anti-corruption agency, Taasisi ya Kuzuia na Kupambana na Rushwa (Takukuru), the lecturer, Samson Mahimbo, solicited sex from a student in exchange for good grades.
As reported by GlobalPublishers, Mahimbo was arraigned at the Kisutu magistrate's court in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania on Wednesday. The prosecution alleges that the lecturer committed the crime in a hotel room within the Mwenge area, Dar es Salaam.
While reading out the charges, the lawyer claimed that Mahimbo misused his authority, promising to help the student pass exams in exchange for sex. Mahimbo pleaded not guilty to the charges, with the next hearing set for September 17, 2019.

It's worth noting that this is not an isolated incident. In a similar case, a Nigerian lecturer, Richard Akindele, was sentenced to two years in prison for demanding sex from a female student. Akindele pleaded guilty to four charges, including sexual coercion of a student and demanding gratification from a student.
