On August 14, 2019, Chelsea and Liverpool clashed in the UEFA Super Cup at the Vodafone Arena in Istanbul, with the match ending 2-2 after extra time.

The English clubs settled for a 1-1 draw after regulation time, with Sadio Mane and Olivier Giroud scoring for their respective teams.

Mane handed Liverpool the lead in extra time, but Jorginho equalized for Chelsea from the penalty spot after Adrian's foul.

However, Liverpool's clinical spot-kick conversion ultimately led to their 5-4 victory in the penalty shootout, with Tammy Abraham's missed penalty being a crucial factor.

Abraham's right-footed effort was saved by Adrian, leaving the 21-year-old distraught.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has since commiserated with Abraham, telling him not to worry about the miss.

"It is part and parcel of being at the top level. We have to be very supportive," Lampard said.

"I've told him not to worry. I've missed penalties before, anyone can miss, but what I want to see is the confidence of a young player to step up," he added.
