Team Kenya Heads to East Africa Secondary Schools Games ¶
Kenyan teams departed Kajiado on Thursday morning, August 15, 2019, ahead of the East Africa Secondary Schools Games in Arusha, Tanzania, scheduled for August 17-26.
The teams, comprising over 50 teams with about 500 students, coaches, and officials, set off for Arusha and were expected to arrive in the Northern Tanzanian town in the afternoon.
After a rest day on Friday, the 18th edition of the annual games will commence on Saturday, with schools from six countries, including Kenya, Burundi, Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar, and Rwanda, competing for titles in various sports.
The teams had been camping at Olekajuado and Moi Isinya secondary schools in Kajiado County since Sunday, fine-tuning their skills for the championship.
The Kenyan contingent was officially flagged off on Wednesday at Olekajuado Secondary school by County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha and County Education Director Luka Kibet.
Kenya is the defending champion, having claimed 28 team medals, including 10 gold, 8 silver, and 10 bronze, during the last year's showpiece.
