On Wednesday, a Kenyan man took an unconventional approach to securing a high-ranking government position, spending Sh130,000 to advertise himself for the vacant Nairobi Deputy Governor seat in a local newspaper.
Philip Chogoti Chepsat, a resident of Nairobi, placed an advert titled 'Expression of Interest' in the Daily Nation newspaper, pleading with Governor Mike Sonko to appoint him to the position left vacant following the resignation of former Deputy Governor Polycarp Igathe in January 2018.
According to the advert, Chepsat is a university graduate with over 15 years of experience in public service, making him a suitable candidate for the position.
‘I have reached out to you (Governor Sonko) openly because I am not sure if my earlier communication did reach you. I also know that you cherish openness and transparency. I am driven by a strong conviction that I could make a significant contribution to your efforts to improve Nairobi city,' read the ad.
Chepsat vowed to perform beyond the expectations of Governor Sonko and those of Nairobi residents if appointed, stating, ‘I look forward to your kind consideration to make me part of the leadership in Nairobi county. I vow to meet if not exceed, your expectations and the expectations of the residents of Nairobi County.'
