The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced 5,000 open vacancies for teachers in public primary and secondary schools across the country. The recruitment drive aims to fill positions in high schools and primary schools.
According to TSC chief executive Nancy Macharia, 4,000 new teachers will be recruited for high schools, while 1,000 primary school teachers with degrees will be promoted to secondary schools. To replace the promoted teachers, TSC will recruit new ones.
Applicants for secondary school positions must possess a minimum of a diploma in education or a Bachelor's in Education degree. Those seeking primary school jobs must have a minimum of a P1 certificate.
Ms. Macharia emphasized that applicants must have a teacher registration certificate and submit their applications to county TSC directors and school boards of management by August 30. The graduate primary school teachers who are already in the TSC payroll will be appointed to teach in secondary schools, provided they meet the required qualifications.
Ms. Macharia noted that the graduate teachers who will be appointed to high schools will make their applications online. Interested candidates under this category should submit their applications to the secretary TSC through the online platform not later than August 30.
The appointed teachers will be posted to secondary schools where vacancies exist and will be appointed at T-scale 7, Grade C2.
