Published on August 15, 2019, Pastor James Ng'ang'a of Neno Evangelism Centre has been at the centre of controversy following his marriage to a younger woman, Mercy Murugi.

Ng'ang'a, who lost his first wife, revealed in a recent interview that he chose to marry a woman half his age to have someone to enjoy life with and care for him in his old age.

“I knew why I married a younger woman, because when I grow old, she might help me take two or three pressure pills,” Ng'ang'a said in the interview.

Despite opposition from his church members, Ng'ang'a went ahead to marry Mercy, who was a university student at the time. He explained that Mercy was the daughter of one of his congregants and that he had known her since she was a child.

Ng'ang'a also revealed that Mercy was later incited by some church members to separate with him, but the two eventually reunited.

The couple exchanged marriage vows in a lavish wedding ceremony held at Windsor Gold Club in Nairobi in 2012.

Recently, a video of Ng'ang'a admonishing his Bishops for allegedly disrespecting his wife went viral on social media. Ng'ang'a explained that the Bishops refused to attend meetings convened by his wife, citing that she was too young to be respected.
