Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has rejected a public request made by a Nairobi resident, Philip Chogoti Chepsat, to be appointed deputy governor of Nairobi County.
On August 14, 2019, Chepsat expressed his interest in the position through a newspaper advert titled 'Expression of Interest.'
He highlighted his credentials as a university graduate with over 15 years of experience in public service.
However, Sonko took to social media to announce that he intends to appoint a woman to fill the position, which has been vacant since January 2018.
He stated that he had committed to appointing a woman as his deputy governor and would not renege on his promise.
Instead, Sonko advised Chepsat to be on the lookout for upcoming vacancies at City Hall, as he plans to sack several lazy county ministers and chief officers.
He also stated that he would be ready to fill the Deputy Governor position once the legislation pending in Parliament on nomination and appointment of Deputy Governor is assented into law.
