On August 14, 2018, Gor Mahia won the Kenyan Premier League title, but their celebrations were short-lived as they faced financial challenges. In a Facebook post, Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria congratulated the team but also expressed his concerns about their financial struggles.
“Congratulations my boys K’Ogalo for clinching KPL 2018. Now we have three major headaches to overcome. Qualifying for the quarter-finals at the continental level, always begging for money for air tickets despite our mighty brand and getting a serious challenger at the local level,” Kuria wrote.
President Uhuru Kenyatta later bailed the team out with Sh6 million, but this move was met with criticism from Miguna Miguna, who took to Twitter to express his disapproval.
“The Despot @UKenyatta inherited TRILLIONS worth of public resources his father Jomo Kenyatta stole from us. He has looted tens of billions of shillings of our money since 2013. Yet, when he “donates” Kshs. 6M – less than a spittle – to Gor Mahia, brainless cyber goons cheer him,” Miguna Miguna tweeted.
