Kenya's national boxing team, the 'Hit Squad', is gearing up for the All African Games in Rabat, Morocco, where they aim to rack up as many medals as possible.
According to head coach Musa Benjamin, the team has been in top gear since their residential training at the Kasarani Indoor Arena, and they are ready to make a strong impression in Morocco.
Benjamin expressed his gratitude to Kenyans for their support, saying, 'We ask that they keep us in prayers and we shall represent the country with all our hearts to make sure we post our country on top chart.'
The team, comprising eight male pugilists and four female boxers, will be led by coach Musa Benjamin, assistant coach David Munuhe, and team manager Isaac Mbote. Ex-boxer Duncan Kuria will also be part of the squad.
On August 14, 2019, National Sports Council executive officer Charles Nyaberi and Sports PS Ambassador Peter Kaberia visited the team and held a meeting with other sports federation officials, including BFK President Anthony Otieno Ombok, to discuss matters related to the team's welfare.
The team will be captained by Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) boxer Nick Okoth, who fought in the 2008 Olympics, and Elizabeth Andiego, who took part in the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The 'Hit Squad' consists of:
- Men: Shaffi Bakari, Nick Okoth, Ethan Maina, Boniface Mogunde, George Cosby Ouma, Edwin Okong'o, Elly Ajowi, and Fredrick Ramogi
- Women: Christine Ongare Shisoka, Everlyne Akinyi, Lorna Kusa, and Elizabeth Andiego
- Officials: Head coach Musa Benjamin, Assistant coach David Munuhe, Team Manager Isaac Mbote, and Papparazi Duncan Kuria
