On August 14, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko responded to Philip Sogoti's application for the Deputy Governor position, which was published in a local newspaper.
Thanking Sogoti for his interest in serving the people of Nairobi, Sonko explained that his office was in the process of writing a formal regret letter due to a pending legislation in Parliament on the nomination and appointment of Deputy Governors.
As a politician committed to keeping his promises, Sonko had earlier pledged to nominate a woman for the Deputy Governor position, and he intended to uphold this promise.
While appreciating Sogoti's interest in serving the county, Sonko advised him to keep checking for vacancies and apply when opportunities arise, as he would be sending home non-performing Members of the County Executive Committee and Chief Officers soon.
Wishing Sogoti the best in his future endeavors, Sonko signed off as 'At Your Service'.
