On August 14, 2019, a tweet by Raila Odinga sparked a heated debate in the Kenyan opposition circles. The tweet showed Raila meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta's sister, Kristina Pratt, at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi.
Responding to the tweet, senior economist David Ndii expressed his disappointment, stating that Raila's actions were a letdown to the entire opposition fraternity. Ndii quoted Raila's tweet, saying, 'We have truly lost this one. What a letdown.'
Ndii's criticism was directed at Raila's decision to meet with Uhuru's sister, which he saw as a betrayal of the opposition's values. The Handshake between Raila and Uhuru had previously led to a rift between Raila and his hardline supporters, who refused to recognize Uhuru as the legitimate President after the 2017 polls.
Since the Handshake, Raila has been hosting diplomats, state officials, politicians, and other dignitaries at his Capitol Hill office, further alienating him from his former allies.
