On July 27, 2019, a tragic incident occurred at Wilson airport, leaving one police officer dead and another facing serious charges.

Constable Samson Morongo, a GSU officer, allegedly lost an AK47 rifle and 30 rounds of 7.62mm39 special ammunition while manning the airport.

According to the DCI, the suspect's clothes tested positive for Gunshot Residue at the Government Chemist, placing him close to the shooting scene.

Constable Morongo pleaded guilty to all counts but requested the court to release him, citing a desire to write a statement explaining the loss of the rifle.

However, the prosecution opposed his release on bail, stating that they were advancing their interrogations and would soon charge him with murder.

Magistrate Martha Mutuku directed that the accused be remanded until August 19, 2019.
