On August 14, 2019, a Nairobi resident took an unconventional approach to applying for the deputy governor position, spending an estimated Sh130,000 on a job advertisement in the Daily Nation.
Philip Sogoti Chepsat, a university graduate with years of experience in public service, described himself as a voter and resident of Nairobi in the advert, expressing his desire to be considered for the position by Governor Mike Sonko.
"Hon Sonko, I have reached out to you openly because I am not sure if my earlier communication did reach you. I also know that you cherish openness and transparency," Chepsat said in the advert.
Since January 13, 2018, Governor Sonko has been without a deputy governor, following the resignation of Polycarp Igathe, who quit just four months after being sworn into office.
