On August 11, 2019, a dramatic scene unfolded in Talek, Narok West, when Benson Onsongo, a 34-year-old father, was attacked by his wife, Marcela Kwamboka, in a domestic quarrel.
According to Onsongo, the incident began when he received a distress call from friends informing him that his wife was attempting to take her own life by drowning in the Talek River. After a frantic rescue effort, Onsongo and members of the public managed to save her, and he took her home.
However, upon their return, Kwamboka turned violent, biting Onsongo on various parts of his body, including his lower lip, which she bit off.
"After I arrived at the scene and we managed to rescue her, I took her home and suddenly she turned violent and it's in the process that she bit off my lower lip," Onsongo recounted, showing off the injured area.
Onsongo suspects that his wife's behavior was linked to drug abuse, citing a pattern of violent outbursts over petty arguments.
Residents have intervened on several occasions to stop Kwamboka's attempts at suicide and her fights with neighbors.
Onsongo's sister, Nancy Moraa, expressed concern for her brother's well-being, stating, "I received a phone call in the middle of the night that my brother had been violently bitten by his wife and his lower lip profusely bleeding, we don't know the woman well but she must be arrested and questioned," she added.
Priscilla Marigi, Senior Nursing Officer at Narok Referral Hospital, confirmed that Onsongo received first aid and treatment, and is now in a stable condition.
Specialists warn that Onsongo may require reconstructive surgery to restore his lip.
