As the peak tourist season kicks off in Kenya, air ticket prices have shot up, especially to the coastal towns of Mombasa, Ukunda, and Malindi. According to industry trends, most people take their holidays in August due to the favorable weather and flexible school programs.
Low-cost carriers have more than doubled their fares to the coastal destinations, with prices skyrocketing on Fridays and weekends as airlines capitalize on high demand. On average, these carriers offer KSh5,000 for an off-peak ticket to Mombasa.
Upgrades to airstrips in the region have enabled them to accommodate large international aircraft and operate late into the night, efficiently handling the surge in travelers. Interestingly, flight charges to other parts of Kenya have remained relatively constant during this period.
